Friday the 13th

Hello

I am feeling much better (if anyone out there is reading this).
Last Sunday kind of ranked as my worst Easter to date, but to be fair most of my Easters have been particularly awesome. Mia was able to come into town Sunday night after I mega-cleaned my room (so she wouldn't catch anything), and we had fun watching movies and chatting. I still wasn't up to eating much or a lot of physical activity, but we were able to get out and see Titanic 3D (I liked that movie so much more this time around. I was never a big fan of it, but seeing it in theaters I found myself being highly entertained).

School exams are soon! I still have to register for my exam dates but they are either the 3rd of 4th week of May! Next week is my last week of class - which is really too bad. I have enjoyed getting to know and socializing with the people in my class!

8 Days until vacation. Cannot wait!!!

Sick.

And not in the good hip slang way, either.
I have contracted the stomach flu. It totally sucks. I can't remember the last time I had the stomach flu this bad. Started around 2:30/3 AM and I haven't been able to sleep all day due to the stomach pain. And all I want is for someone to be here to help me a little - maybe go to the pharmacy for me. But alas.
Blech I just hope it goes away soon. The baby had it, and then the Nurse's two sons both had it, and now both Lu and I have it.
Unfortunately this also ruins my weekend plans!
At least on the bright side its almost the weekend. And when the family leaves for the beach, taking all their food with them (this is what they do. I have to scrounge for/buy my own food whenever I am here alone on the weekends), that means I don't have to spend a lot of money on food!
And at least its not in 2 weeks - when Mia and I are headed on our big vacation to Croatia.

GO AWAY, Stomach Flu! I want to be able to successfully leave my room!

7 Months!

Bonjour

I have officially been here over 7 months! Woot Woot! Hope you had a great "poisson d'avril" (This means "fish of April" and is the equivalent of April fools day. They cut out paper fishies and tape them to people's backs as jokes).

Meeting people is difficult over here, when I spend most of my time alone or with children. Luckily I have been able to meet people in my classes, through the au pair agency (so they know what its like to be an indentured servant and we can commiserate together) and also through taking care of the kids.

Its great to get out of my stuck-in-my-room bubble. This weekend I drank an "apero" (aperotif - its drinks before dinner. Happy hour is 6-7:30 at this place near my house - all drinks half off!) and went and saw a movie with my au pair friend Svetlana (from Russia). Tomorrow I have lunch plans with a bunch of people from class.
I have also gotten to know the baby's nurse (Sevrene) and the mother and grandmother of one of Lu's friends. All the children love going to the "pierres" (french for rocks. In this case they are referring to the ruins by the Joan of Arc chuch) after school. We meet Lu's friend and her friend's brother there. Their grandmother picks them up after school on Mondays, and she is very nice and engaging. Their mother was colder at first but is now also very nice to me and we talk quite a bit while watching the 5 kids (my 3 and her 2).

Anyway, its nice to know people! Sometimes I feel like just curling up and staying inside my own little bubble - not necessarily in a negative way. I feel much more introverted than I did back in the states. I enjoy spending more time alone, and more time on my computer or with books. Its unusual for me, as I definitely lean toward extroverted-ness. Its good to get off the bed and off the computer and go interact with people - even if it takes a lot of effort and a few language misunderstandings :)
